Bekah is a versatile and accomplished singer, having studied voice from a very young age with Richmond teachers such as Dr. David McCormick, Michelle Harman-Gulick, and Charles Lynam, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Bekah moved to Richmond in 1992 to study voice with L. Wayne Batty from Virginia Commonwealth University, and then in Maryland with Francois Loup and Carmen Balthrop from the University of Maryland at College Park.
She currently coaches with Melanie Day, voice coach, and studied voice recently with Ronda Plessinger, both from VCU. Bekah received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1995 from VCU in Vocal Performance, and a Master of Music degree in 1999 from the University of Maryland in Opera . She also studied piano from age five with Melissa Marrion, piano professor Emeritus, from VCU. Bekah's parents, Emerson and Kathy, are both accomplished musicians and teachers, having received their BME from VCU and performed in major venues around Richmond and surrounding areas. Bekah has been singing professionally since the age of eighteen, as soloist in opera, oratorio, recital and other musical venues.
Professional credits include an apprenticeship with Sarasota Opera, Meistersinger Finalist with the Graz Festival in Austria, a member of the Washington Bach Consort and soloist with the Chamber Masterworks in Washington D.C. Solo credits also include the Williamsburg Choral Guild, Richmond Choral Society, International Vocal Artists of Bethesda, Opera Vivente of Baltimore and oratorio performances in Richmond, D.C. and Baltimore. |
